About Technivorm
Technivorm was founded in 1964 by industrial engineer Gerard Clement Smit in Amerongen, the Netherlands, taking its name from the Dutch words for technique and design. After years of in-house research and development, the company introduced its first filter coffee brewer in 1969 and gave it the name it's sold under to this day: the Moccamaster. In the United States, the brand trades as Technivorm Moccamaster, and every unit is still individually hand-assembled and inspected at the original Netherlands factory, a practice the company has followed since 1968.
Moccamaster brewers are independently certified by the European Coffee Brewing Centre (ECBC, since 1975) and the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) to the Golden Cup Standard, which tests brew time, water temperature, and total dissolved solids against a defined range rather than accepting a manufacturer's own claims. The company passed the 10-million-units-sold mark in 2017, and its copper-element brewers are a recurring name on independent "SCA-certified coffee maker" roundups. In our own testing, what stands out is the consistency: a copper boiling element that reaches proper extraction temperature quickly, a 5-year warranty, and user-replaceable parts that support the decade-plus service life owners commonly report.

Why we recognized Technivorm
The DeskRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Technivorm earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, used at a real desk, and judged on merit.
Technivorm products we rated highly
Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select 10-Cup
In our testing, its copper boiling element reached the SCA-recommended 196-205°F extraction range in under a minute, and the brewer carries independent SCA certification rather than a manufacturer's own claim of optimal brewing parameters. The 5-year warranty is the longest we found in the category, matching Technivorm's documented track record of 10+ year service life with user-replaceable parts. It's hand-built in the Netherlands with an individual serial number, a quality story that holds up for offices treating the breakroom coffee setup as a real amenity.
