About CalDigit
CalDigit was established in 2006 in Placentia, California, where the company still designs, tests, and assembles its hardware. It started out building FireWire and eSATA RAID storage systems for creative professionals, then moved into Thunderbolt when the standard launched in 2011, releasing its first Thunderbolt Station dock in 2013. CalDigit describes itself as vertically integrated, handling research, engineering, and manufacturing of its docks in-house rather than outsourcing to a contract design house, and the docking-station line has grown to 16 models released over the past decade spanning Thunderbolt and USB-C.
The TS4, the dock we feature below, sits at the top of that lineup with 18 ports on a single Thunderbolt 4 cable. It has been reviewed favorably by outlets including Windows Central, XDA Developers, and TechRadar, each singling out its port density and 98W of laptop charging as standout specs for the Thunderbolt dock category. In our own testing, the same engineering choices that outside reviewers note, full-wattage power delivery rather than dynamically shared charging, and zero driver installation on macOS, held up under daily use.

Why we recognized CalDigit
The DeskRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. CalDigit earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, used at a real desk, and judged on merit.
CalDigit products we rated highly
CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station, 18-Port
In our testing, the TS4 packs 18 ports onto a single Thunderbolt cable, the highest port density of any dock we reviewed in this category, so every peripheral stays connected permanently and the laptop plugs in once. Its 2.5GbE Ethernet port moves data at 2.5 times standard Gigabit, a real difference for NAS access and large file transfers, and its SD UHS-II slot reads at up to 312 MB/s, the fastest card reader in our lineup, a detail that matters for photographers and videographers offloading media. We saw zero driver issues on macOS and confirmed native dual extended display on M-series MacBooks over Thunderbolt, something most USB-C-only docks cannot do.

- 18 ports on a single Thunderbolt 4 cable, the highest port count of any dock in our USB-C docking station lineup.
- 2.5GbE Ethernet, 2.5 times the throughput of the Gigabit ports on every other dock we tested in the category.
- An SD UHS-II card slot rated at up to 312 MB/s, the fastest card reader among the docks we reviewed.
- Native dual extended display on M-series MacBooks over Thunderbolt with no driver installation, in a category where most USB-C docks only mirror on a Mac.
- Two decades of in-house Thunderbolt and storage engineering from a vertically integrated manufacturer based in Placentia, California, reflected in build quality that outside reviewers at Windows Central, XDA Developers, and TechRadar have also praised.
