About Intelligent Change

Intelligent Change is a Los Angeles company founded in 2013 by Alex Ikonn and UJ Ramdas around a single idea: behavior change should be simple, beautiful, and evidence-based rather than another app notification. Its flagship product, The Five Minute Journal, turned that idea into a five-minute morning-and-evening gratitude practice that has sold well over a million copies and is now used by more than four million people worldwide.

The brand extended the same guided-practice format into daily planning with the Productivity Planner, and into family use with a Five Minute Journal for Kids. What stands out in our testing is the follow-through on materials — linen hardcovers, elastic closures, and thick, fountain-pen-friendly paper — paired with an undated format that lets a reader restart without the guilt of blank dated pages. The Five Minute Journal has also drawn mainstream endorsement, including praise from author Tim Ferriss as one of the simplest tools he uses to track wellbeing.

Why we recognized Intelligent Change

The DeskRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Intelligent Change earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, used at a real desk, and judged on merit.

Intelligent Change products we rated highly

The Five Minute Journal — Original Daily Gratitude Journal (Undated, Intelligent Change)
Top Pick 2026

The Five Minute Journal — Original Daily Gratitude Journal (Undated, Intelligent Change)

The fill-in structure is the entire value: three morning gratitudes, three daily intentions, a daily affirmation, and two evening reflection lines make a full journaling practice that takes under five minutes — the reason it actually gets used daily when blank journals sit empty after week two. Undated pages mean a missed week doesn't end the habit, and the linen hardcover, elastic closure, and thick cream paper hold up to twice-daily handling.

Intelligent Change 3-Month Productivity Planner
Top Pick 2026

Intelligent Change 3-Month Productivity Planner

The most structured guided-productivity pick we tested — a built-in habit tracker, goal prompts, and mindfulness cues turn a blank calendar into a daily system, built on the same methodology behind The Five Minute Journal. The undated A5 format is portable enough for a bag or desk and lets a reader start on any day without wasted pages.

What earned Intelligent Change the recognition

  • A genuinely guided format, not a blank page — the five-minute morning-and-evening template removes the intimidation that empties most journals by week two.
  • Undated pages across the line forgive missed days instead of shaming a reader into quitting a dated planner mid-quarter.
  • Material quality that survives daily handling — linen hardcovers, elastic closures, ribbon markers, and thick, fountain-pen-friendly paper.
  • Scale of adoption — The Five Minute Journal has sold well over a million copies and is used by more than four million people worldwide, with public endorsement from author Tim Ferriss.
  • A consistent methodology across products — the same guided-practice framework carries from the flagship journal into the Productivity Planner and the kids' edition.
