About Kinesis
Kinesis Corporation is an ergonomic-keyboard specialist founded in 1991 and based in Bothell, Washington, outside Seattle. The company built the first Kinesis contoured keyboard, the Model 100, in 1992, and has spent more than three decades since developing split, contoured, and tenting keyboard designs aimed at reducing repetitive strain and carpal-tunnel symptoms rather than adapting a standard flat layout.
Its current lineup centers on two keyboard families: the fully split, concave-keywell Advantage2 and Advantage360 boards, and the separable Freestyle2, Freestyle Pro, and Freestyle Edge lines, sold alongside tenting lift kits and palm-support accessories that let a single frame's ergonomics be tuned incrementally. In our own testing across two roundups, Kinesis keyboards stood out for genuine hardware-level ergonomic intervention: true independent split, adjustable tenting, and thumb clusters that offload the pinky, all backed by open-source ZMK firmware or the onboard SmartSet app rather than a layer of proprietary remapping software.

Why we recognized Kinesis
The DeskRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Kinesis earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, used at a real desk, and judged on merit.
Kinesis products we rated highly
Kinesis Advantage360 Professional Split Ergonomic Keyboard
Fully split halves with true contoured concave keywells and adjustable 3-position tenting let each hand find its own neutral, shoulder-width angle, and thumb clusters move Enter, Space, Backspace, and Delete off the pinky fingers. It pairs over Bluetooth to multiple devices and runs fully open-source ZMK firmware, so the layout is programmable without any proprietary software lock-in.

Kinesis Freestyle2 Ergonomic Keyboard for PC
True independent split halves separate up to 20 inches apart, letting each hand sit directly in front of the shoulder for wider-than-average shoulder widths. Low-force tactile membrane switches ease keystroke fatigue for users managing repetitive strain, and the modular design adds the VIP3 Lifters for tenting or Palm Supports for cushioning only if you need them.

Kinesis Advantage360 Professional Split Ergonomic Keyboard
Concave key wells with orthogonal columns and dedicated thumb clusters keep the wrists straight and move modifier keys off the little fingers. The two halves separate roughly ten inches and tent independently, the layout runs open-source firmware so layers and macros are stored on the keyboard, and it carries a three-year warranty with US-based technical support.

Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB Plus Split Mechanical Keyboard
A genuine two-piece split with the tenting lift kit included delivers real ergonomic separation without committing to contoured key wells, and hot-swappable sockets let switch feel be tuned after purchase. Detachable cushioned palm supports mount to each half independently, and Mac keycaps ship in the box alongside the Windows set.

- Fully split, concave keywell designs on the Advantage2 and Advantage360 move each hand to its own neutral, shoulder-width angle and put Enter, Space, Backspace, and Delete on dedicated thumb clusters instead of the pinky.
- The Freestyle line separates up to 20 inches for users with wider-than-average shoulder widths, with modular lift-kit and palm-support accessories so an ergonomic upgrade can be added incrementally rather than all at once.
- Advantage360 and Freestyle Edge boards run open-source ZMK firmware or the onboard SmartSet app, so remapped layers and macros live on the keyboard itself rather than in host software.
- A three-year warranty with US-based technical support on the flagship Advantage360 line, longer coverage than most other ergonomic keyboards we've tested.
- Over three decades as a specialist purely in ergonomic input devices, tracing back to the 1992 Model 100, the first Kinesis contoured keyboard.
