About Ergotron

Ergotron is a Minnesota-based ergonomics company founded in 1982 by Harry Sweere, its name a portmanteau of ergonomics and electronics. Now a subsidiary of Melrose Industries, the company holds more than 200 patents in monitor-mounting and mobile-computing ergonomics, and its product range spans monitor arms, sit-stand desks under the WorkFit brand, and medical-cart workstations under CareFit, sold into office, healthcare, industrial, and education markets.

The engineering signature across Ergotron's monitor-arm lineup is its patented Constant Force tensioning technology, designed to deliver consistent lifting force across the arm's full range of motion so a monitor holds its position instead of drifting downward as the mechanism ages. Ergotron backs its LX and HX lines with a 10-year warranty covering the spring mechanism, arm joints, and mount hardware, and tests its motion mechanisms for up to 10,000 cycles — engineering choices that showed up directly in our own hands-on monitor-arm testing.

Why we recognized Ergotron

The DeskRated Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our hands-on category reviews. Ergotron earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: bought, used at a real desk, and judged on merit.

Ergotron products we rated highly

Ergotron LX Single Monitor Arm
Top Pick 2026

Ergotron LX Single Monitor Arm

Constant Force tension keeps the monitor exactly where you place it, without the slow downward drift that develops on cheaper gas-spring arms. In our testing, the aluminum-and-steel build with 10,000-cycle motion certification and 17.3 inches of height travel handled full sit-stand transitions cleanly, and the 10-year warranty is the longest coverage period we found in the category.

Ergotron HX Heavy Duty Monitor Arm
Top Pick 2026

Ergotron HX Heavy Duty Monitor Arm

Built for 34-49 inch ultrawide and superwide displays up to 42 lbs without sag or wobble, with broader VESA support (75x75 through 200x200mm) that covers mounting patterns most arms skip. The same Constant Force smoothness as the LX series scales up for heavier loads, and the full 10-year warranty still applies at this heavy-duty tier.

Ergotron LX Dual Vertical Stacking Monitor Arm
Top Pick 2026

Ergotron LX Dual Vertical Stacking Monitor Arm

Arranges monitors vertically, side-by-side, or in a mixed orientation, supports 40-inch screens per arm, and expands to three or four monitors with the LX Collar Kit — a multi-monitor path we didn't find on any other arm in our review. It carries the same 10-year warranty and Constant Force precision as the single LX, scaled across two arms.

What earned Ergotron the recognition

  • Patented Constant Force tensioning holds monitors in place across the arm's full range of motion, tested to 10,000 motion cycles, without the downward drift common in cheaper gas-spring arms.
  • A 10-year warranty on the LX and HX lines covers the spring mechanism, arm joints, and mount hardware — the longest coverage we found in the monitor-arm category.
  • Capacity spans from 7 lb single monitors up to 42 lb heavy-duty ultrawide and superwide displays via the HX line, with VESA support up to 200x200mm.
  • Founded in 1982 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the company holds more than 200 patents in mounting and mobile-computing ergonomics.
  • Vertical-stacking and multi-monitor expansion options give multi-screen setups a documented upgrade path we didn't find matched elsewhere in our testing.
